Remotely control your iPhone using Veency

There a lot of apps in iPhone that allow you to control your computer remotely, but there’s no any apps that allow you to control your iPhone from your computer but Veency.

Veency is an apps that you can download from Cydia (Only for jailbroken phone) and it’s a fully functional VNS server for the iPhone and it’s allow you to connect from your computer using the VNC viewer.

(Note for installing: You MUST reboots your phone after it’s installed for the service to start. Then you can connect with a VNC client. This isn’t in the file info.)

I found the Veency very useful when my iPhone is charging in my room or even besides my PC, and I can simply reply or SMS any of my friends using my computer. Where you need to do is just to remember the iPhone IP address.

Overall is a very good idea and cool apps, but I found out one thing that the apps can improve is allow the clipboard sharing between the iPhone and the computer.

How to use Veency on iPhone

1. First, fire up Cydia and install Veency.

2. After installation, you would not find any Veency application icon on home screen. But Veency should be already there.

3. Connecting to Veency requires you to use a VNC client. For Windows user, you can download VNC client from RealVNC. For Mac users, I recommend you use Chicken VNC, which is also free.

4. Here, I’ll use RealVNC as example. For other VNC clients, the connection procedures should be more or less the same. Okay, launch RealVNC.

5. Next, check your iPhone’s IP address. You can find it in “Settings” -> Wifi . Click “>” on your selected Wifi Network to display the IP address (e.g. 10.0.1.197)

6. Back to RealVNC, on the server text box, just enter the iPhone IP Address and click on ok button to connect to your iPhone.

Shortcut Keys for Google Reader

Google Reader is one of my favorite feed readers that I use it almost every day on my computer, iPad, as well as iPhone. Google not only provide a single window for all updated contents from your favorites websites/weblogs, but it also having the innovative features such as sharing, tagging, auto-sorting etc.

To make the product more user friendly, Google Reader come with a long list of shortcut key to save your time when browsing the feed. The most common use shortcut keys that I use are J, K (to navigate forward and backend) and V (to open the original source for the article in new window).

Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 keep crashing solution

When working on Coldfusion in the Adobe Dreamweaver 5 and it keep crash. Whenever I restart the applications and start my work again, it will crash again after sometime (about few minutes later on)

 

Asking around my colleague and get the following working solution by removing the WinFileCache-B2AEB9E2.dat file.

 

On Window XP

the file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration

 

On window 7

the file is located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration

 

* Dreamweaver will recreate the file again if it found the file missing when you relaunch the application again.

Our computer are very smart and it will help us to enhance the user experience by creating some temporary file and store it in somewhere in your harddisk. So after sometime the un-used files, old temporary files, temporary Internet files, and any log file may use up a lot of space in your harddisk, in addition, those unwanted file may also slow down your computer performance. Keeping your harddisk clean and tiny is a way to mainteance your computer performance at the top.


This task seem easy but very time consuming as we may need to find out what files are useless for our computer and safe to delete without affecting our computer. Microsoft Window XP/2003 did provide a very user friendly tools for us to done the task call ‘Disk Cleanup Manager’.


You can get the tools at Start –> All Program –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Disk Cleanup.


But to using this tools, it need the human interaction which response to it on the spot in order to accomplish the job. Why not we make it run automatically at the time that the computer is free or idle without any response needed by the user.


To do so just following the following step:

  1. Click Start Menu > Run, then type cleanmgr /sageset:1
  2. Click OK.
Disk Cleanup opens with a list of the possible files to be deleted. Select a file type to display a description. Check the boxes for the files you want removed, and click OK.

There are something you need to attention on which is the first command and switch you enter in the command prompt are difference with the extra command and switch you enter on the scheduler. The command enter in command prompt is /sageset but in the scheduler is /sagerun.

/sageset:n      - Display the Disk Cleanup Settings dialog box and create a registry key to store the settings you select.
The n value is stored in the registry and allows you to specify different tasks for Disk Cleanup to run.
n can be any integer from 0 to 65535. Specify the %systemroot% drive to see all the available options.
/sagerun:n       – Run task ‘n’
All drives in the computer will be enumerated, and the
selected profile will be run against each drive.

Hidding IIS web server header

Google for long time regarding how to hide the HTTP header for IIS in order to mask the server identity and finally found out this tools call URLScan.
Basically URLScan is an ISAPI filter that allows Web site administrators to restrict the kind of HTTP requests that the server will process. By blocking specific HTTP requests, the URLScan filter prevents potentially harmful requests from reaching the server and causing damage.

  3. go to the URLScan config file at C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\urlscan\UrlScan.ini
  4. Change RemoveServerHeader=1 (by default is 0)
  5. Save the file
  6. Restart your IIS
  7. Check on your header (http://www.rexswain.com/httpview.html)
