webe has just announced a couple of updates to its tethering options, kept separate from the general data use. The existing option of getting two hours of unlimited streaming for RM6 is still here, now accompanied with a new paid option and another that’s free for existing and new webemobile user.

Starting with the free option, webe is giving 1GB of tethering data every month for the next three months to every webemobile user, both existing and new. If that’s not enough, then you can get 500MB more for RM8 as part of the MobileWiFi 500MB top-up option. This has a validity of 30 days, with a 60-day rollover period for any of it that’s unused.

You’ve probably already heard many things about webe – the telco company that was formerly known as P1 – over the past couple of months, especially the juicy details regarding its mobile plan that seemed too good to be true.

Well, we can assure you that it isn’t. webe has officially been launched earlier today, and the single mobile plan that they have to offer will indeed only cost from as low as RM79 (or RM83.74 including GST), and it will grant you unlimited data, texts and calls.

Notice the ‘from as low as’ catch? You’ll only be entitled to the very attractive RM79 monthly price if you are an existing TM customer or webe member, and if you have a webe certified phone. If you don’t meet both the criteria, you’ll unfortunately have to cough up RM199 per month. Meet either one of them, and you’ll be paying RM139 a month instead.

Before you go rushing to be a webe subscriber, we should probably mention that registration is still on an invite-only basis, and only selected TM and P1 customers will be eligible to receive the invite. During the post-event press conference, Azizi A. Hadi, Chief Executive Officer of webe digital Sdn Bhd, mentioned that registration will be open to everyone “in early Q4.” Although you can, however, register your interest here.

U Mobile recently opened its 13th outlet in Malacca. The new store is part of the company’s initiative to widen its footprint in the southern region of the country. The store will also provide customers with greater accessibility to U Mobile products and services.

In conjunction with the opening of the store, the first 20 customers who subscribed to the telco’s postpaid or prepaid plans were given a limited edition Dragon-shaped thumb drive courtesy of U Mobile. In addition, the first 25 customers who downloaded the free tumbler coupon from U Mobile’s Facebook page received a limited edition BlackBerry tumbler as well.

U Mobile Opens New Store in Penang

U Mobile has recently opened a new store at Seberang JayaPenang on16 December2011. The new one-stop service store provides U Mobile customers in the north with convenient and easier access to U Mobile products and services.

Among the services provided at the U Mobile store include prepaid starter packs, top-up vouchers, postpaid packages, broadband registrations, payment transactions, and customer service support from friendly U Mobile staff.

U Mobile has completed approximately 80% of its HSPA+ site rollout in the state of Penang and is planning to reach a capacity of 150 sites by early 2012.

During the launch, Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile said, “We will continue to focus on increasing our network coverage and strive to increase our presence in key locations to bring us closer to our consumers and make our products and services more accessible.”
