U Mobile recently announced that it would be working together with Huawei to launch its new 4.5G service in Malaysia.


Specifically, U Mobile and Huawei will be launching its 4.5G service via the 1,800MHz and the 2,600MHz waveband, and they will be starting in Johor Bahru, allowing residents in the state to be the first to enjoy the telco’s new and faster mobile service.


“U Mobile is very excited to be able to launch 4.5G service in Johor Bahru. From today [May 23, 2017], customers in Johor Bahru will enjoy significant enhancement in their user experience. For those who are using smartphones that support 4.5G service, such as Huawei P10 Plus, the enhancement will be even more significant with up to twice the speed of 4G, making their experiences in streaming, downloading and browsing so much faster and better,” Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile, said.


“We are delighted that Malaysian customers can now experience a better and faster mobile broadband service based on 4.5G technologies. The new service not only allows customers to enjoy new initiatives like high definition (HD) video whenever and wherever they are, it is also a key stepping stone for the realization of Internet of Things (IoT). We look forward to working with U Mobile and other industry partners to bring new and innovative services to more customers and vertical sectors in the near future,” Abraham Liu Kang, CEO of Huawei Malaysia, also commented about the collaboration between his company and U Mobile.

U Mobile and Sun Life Malaysia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a partnership to provide telco-assurance to U Mobile’s five million user base. This marks the first time that a telco service provider is offering life insurance plans, as well as the first time U Mobile customers will be able to apply, subscribe and manage their life insurance plan via a mobile phone.

Wong Heang Tuck, U Mobile’s CEO said “we will be partnering with Sun Life Malaysia to offer microinsurance which provides necessary and adequate protection with low monthly premiums.”


U Mobile subscribers who are interested in signing up for a microinsurance plan will be able to do so starting October 2017, as that is when the telco will be offering Sun Life Malaysia’s microinsurance products. More information will be available on U Mobile’s official website.



Celcom Axiata Berhad along with 7 other Service Providers have been awarded an allocation of the 2600 MHz spectrum band by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) a few days ago.

In a statement to the press, Celcom said that it has been allocated two 10 MHz blocks for its introduction of Celcom 4G LTE, following intensive network trials and Celcom’s nationwide network upgrading exercise to a single RAN (Radio Access Network) platform that allows it to implement speedy and seamless LTE (Long-term Evolution) upgrades across its current 2G and 3G network infrastructure.

Celcom 4G LTE will first be deployed in selected areas in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor’s Iskandar Malaysia growth corridor, including the Legoland theme park. The mobile operator also plans to invest up to RM300 million over the next three years on ongoing network modernisation that will fully support LTE technology.

Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Berhad, commented, “We aim to roll out our 4G spectrum in market centres across Malaysia over the next six months and our customers can now look forward to the next level of experience including blazing-fast data speeds, enhanced browsing and connectivity, and HD-quality video across their mobile devices.”

“Regardless of wherever they are within Celcom Territory, our customers will enjoy the advantages of our upgraded 4G network supported by Celcom’s current lightning-fast HSPA speeds nationwide which already supports speeds on par with global best-in-class performance.”

Apart from Celcom, the other 7 operators that received the LTE spectrum are DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd, Puncak Semangat Sdn Bhd, REDtone Marketing Sdn Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd.

U Mobile team up with JackCow

U Mobile has announced that it is partnering with Jackcow, a group buying website, to provide its prepaid plan subscribers with another convenient way to top-up. In conjunction with this, U Mobile is rewarding its prepaid subscribers with free Jackcow credits when they reload on the site.


“This partnership is part of U Mobile’s strategy, to widen our distribution network to ensure our products are easily accessible. As a dynamic and innovative telco provider, we are constantly striving to push the envelope, exploring rewarding business opportunities with non-traditional distribution channels for the benefit of our customers and the growth of our company,” said Jaffa Sany Ariffin, CEO, U Mobile.


U Mobile users who purchase RM30, RM50 and RM100 to reload their credits will also receive RM5, RM8 and RM20 worth of Jackcow credits respectively, which are valid for three months on the day of purchase. By simply keying in their mobile numbers on a simple interface and selecting the amount needed, U Mobile customers can top-up their credit while getting Jackcow credit  which they can use to purchase more their product or even more U Mobile credit.

U Mobile recently opened its 13th outlet in Malacca. The new store is part of the company’s initiative to widen its footprint in the southern region of the country. The store will also provide customers with greater accessibility to U Mobile products and services.

“With the new store, we are looking to provide our customers greater convenience and access to our products and services, allowing them to enjoy all the benefits of being a U Mobile subscriber. Customers have always been our utmost priority and this initiative too will allow us to hear more from our customers, understand their needs and challenges, and foster closer relationships,” said Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer, U Mobile.

In conjunction with the opening of the store, the first 20 customers who subscribed to the telco’s postpaid or prepaid plans were given a limited edition Dragon-shaped thumb drive courtesy of U Mobile. In addition, the first 25 customers who downloaded the free tumbler coupon from U Mobile’s Facebook page received a limited edition BlackBerry tumbler as well.


U Mobile Opens New Store in Penang

U Mobile has recently opened a new store at Seberang JayaPenang on16 December2011. The new one-stop service store provides U Mobile customers in the north with convenient and easier access to U Mobile products and services.

Among the services provided at the U Mobile store include prepaid starter packs, top-up vouchers, postpaid packages, broadband registrations, payment transactions, and customer service support from friendly U Mobile staff.

U Mobile has completed approximately 80% of its HSPA+ site rollout in the state of Penang and is planning to reach a capacity of 150 sites by early 2012.

During the launch, Dr. Kaizad Heerjee, Chief Executive Officer of U Mobile said, “We will continue to focus on increasing our network coverage and strive to increase our presence in key locations to bring us closer to our consumers and make our products and services more accessible.”
