03-21788888 AmBank Credit Card Fraud

Getting a call came in this morning while I working in office, and I just pick up the phone as usual, the number is so easy to remember, which is 03-21788888, on the other end of the phone just play the conversation some sort like

This is AmBank Credit Card center. We have detected a pending transaction of RM3800 in your account. Please press 1 to confirm transaction. Press 2 to talk with our customer service or press 9 to repeat.

I never apply any AmBank credit card before, even never submit any application than I can 100% confirm that this is the fraud call from someone, so just try to play with it by pressing the number 9 hope to speak with someone in the phone. But when I press it, there is a guy speaking said that this is a AmBank call center bla bla bla, without wait me to speak anything, it hang up my phone.

Than try to Google the incoming call number and found out there are a lot of forum post, blog regarding the case which happen to me.

So just share my experience out here and hopefully everyone are alert about this kind of case.

David, a friend of mine had the same experience recently. He received a call from AmBank asking him to verify a transaction he didn’t make on a card he didn’t have. He pressed 9 to speak to customer service and the staff asked him to lodge a report with Bank Negara Malaysia as he had been a fraud victim. Someone had stolen his identity to apply for an AmBank Visa Gold a few months earlier. He was unaware of it, until the phone call, as the thief had used a fake address for the card statement to be sent to.

When he spoke to the AmBank customer service staff he also discovered that there were other transactions made of which he was not notified. Please call BNM (http://www.bnm.gov.my/microsites/fraudalert/04_help.htm) as the thief may not stop at using your information to apply for credit cards only. He/ she could move on to bigger things such applying for loans. My friend got his issue sorted out with BNM’s help and he suspects that it was an internal job.

May I know is that your friend lost anything in term of money? Because I highly suspect that the first phone call itself is actually make by fraudster them self.

Because at the end of first part of conversation, they actually forward me to a so call “customer service” which have pre-recorded the speech, if you ask anything other than their preset answer, than they call will drop.

Please do share if your friend has any feedback from Bank Negara Malaysia regarding the incident happen to him.

Hi I just received the same call with the same message from 03-21788888, meaning these people still operating daringly. I do not have any account with AM Bank so why should I get call from this bank.

    1. David 06/03/2014 at 3:27 pm

Ya, I also never have the AM bank account or credit card before, I doubt that where they get all our contact from?

And funny thing is these people are operating for such a long time, yet they are still “alive”. Please help to share this news to people around before any one being cheated

    hi all,

fyi, i received the same exact call from 03-21788888, from ambank telling im owing rm3800 fr credit card. funny thing, of coz that i nvr had a credit card with ambank but also the call seems convincing enough as if its from a recorded computerized female voice before a man picks it up.

so from all the thread i read before, its a scam?

    1. David 06/05/2014 at 10:24 am

Yes, it’s a scam, there is someone post the newspaper cutting on this issue as well. But i think because not much people getting cheat, so the newspaper just write a very short news only, when only got so many people complaint and log the police report, than only the particular department start to take action.

So be always caution about those call and do share this news with the people around

  7. ben 06/05/2014 at 10:38 am

    Hi,

I got such call about an AmBank Visa Gold card which i never had this morning. Looks like the Syndicate is using another number now 03-2167 3833 . A guy named Max Wong who first spoke in Malay ‘served’ me. When I told him my name, he started speaking in Mandarin.

AmBank Call Center 1300 8088 8820 confirmed the new number is used as a Fraud.

    Be Careful fellow Malaysians !!

  9. David 09/06/2014 at 5:03 pm

Is there any 1 received the call from 0323831100? Which the call will automatically disconnect after few seconds you pick up the call?

I search it from Google, found out that this number being making miss call around for Citibank customer since year 2011.

Please share if any one of you guy facing this too.

  10. john 16/06/2014 at 10:08 am

    recently they change the number to the current 0321673000… but the same voice recorded saying;

‘This is AmBank Credit Card center. We have detected a pending transaction of RM3800 in your account. Please press 1 to confirm transaction. Press 2 to talk with our customer service or press 9 to repeat.’

but if you listen careful the background suggestive of recorded media player rather than answering machine…

    sharing is caring…

    1. David 16/06/2014 at 10:14 am

Thanks John, what I did was, I block those funny funny number that call to me and try to play play with me.
