Maybank2u app updated with facial and voice authentication

Maybank has updated its Maybank2u mobile app with two new authentication methods: facial and voice recognition.

With Face ID and Voice ID, Maybank customers will be able to access their accounts and check their balances on the Maybank2u app. But to perform actual transactions, they are required to enter their login credentials as an added safety precaution. Maybank says they’re actively improving the capabilities of the new Face ID and Voice ID systems to allow the authorization of transactions in the near future.

Maybank is the first Malaysian bank to offer three biometric login authentication methods on a financial mobile app, with the other one being fingerprint recognition, implemented back in 2015.

According to Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan, the Head of Community Financial Services of Maybank Malaysia, customers will need to have a mobile device with a 2MP front-facing camera (at the very least) and a built-in microphone to use the new Face ID and Voice ID features on the Maybank2u app.

“The number of times a customer logins in to our mobile app has been increasing ever since we introduced biometric fingerprint and the ease of our new mobile app. In the month of October itself, we saw our customers logging in more than 60 million times to our app, which is a 100 percent increase compared to January 2017,” said Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan.

“Given this large traction in mobile transactions, we felt it was critical to enhance our customer experience by offering our users speedier access to their accounts,” he added.

The Maybank2u app is available as a free download on iOS App Store and Google Play.
