Melaka Lays Cloud Computing Infrastructure With Red Hat
The Melaka State Government has selected Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to be deployed as the foundation of the state’s cloud computing infrastructure. Also announced was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Melaka State Government and Abyres, one of Red Hat’s partners in Malaysia, making it the first initiative to drive the adoption of open source technologies in the Melaka public sector.

“Red Hat is very pleased to collaborate with the Melaka State Government to promote open source awareness in Melaka, but also hopes that with the setting up of the Open Source Center of Excellence, we will be able to provide expertise and resources to train current and future IT professionals in Malaysia through this channel,” said DP van Leeuwen , Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, Red Hat.
The Melaka State Government had chosen to rely on Red Hat technologies due to the reliable Red Hat subscription model and innovative open source development model. Open source technologies, such as Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and its Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor, also offer freedom from vendor lock-in, which is a compelling benefit for building cloud computing infrastructures.
Red Hat has agreed to provide the relevant training and material for the Red Hat Academy curriculum at local education institutions in Melaka. The Open Source Center of Excellence by the Melaka State government will provide the necessary facilities and resources for local students and lecturers to be trained in Linux, middleware and other open source technologies.
